Fantasy Pizza

LEAD DESIGNER

Fantasy Pizza is a mobile game that turns watching sports into winning FREE pizza.

Skills: Figma, Adobe Suite, Game Design, Information Design

Press: Chicago Tribune

Key Features

The Gameboard

When you enter Fantasy Pizza, you get a unique pizza gameboard with 8 random stats. When a stat total is reached, you get a slice. Essentially, it is Bingo in a pizza pie shape.

The goal of the interface is be interesting enough for a user to keep the screen open...for hours. This is all a marketing play. "Let's keep valuable eyeballs on a screen in a very crowded space such as an NFL Sunday." All while staring at delicious pizza.

Slice Tracker: A Problem Solved

Problem: Some of the stats that complete a slice are not obvious unless your face is buried in a live box score. (which certainly isn't fun when enjoying a live sporting event) With API limitations on showing a live box score, this created an issue. No one inherently knows how many team tackles the Bears have at any given moment. Users became frustrated because they were forced to leave the app to find the needed stat totals.

Solution: Slice Tracker was born. We brought the tracker into the app and showed how close you were with a simple bar chart. My goal was for a user to see how close they were to winning with a simple glance.

Opportunity: This solution created a whole new area of business for us. Since the Slice Tracker was so effective, users kept it open for hours. Screen time skyrocketed. The Slice Tracker became valuable real estate for a banner ad.

Conclusion

Fantasy Pizza was my first project where I focused on using analytics to make decisions for the app. It challenged me to craft a fun and engaging user interface while also achieving business objectives.

While Fantasy Pizza is not currently live, it is my hope is that this game will be providing pizza to sports fans in the near future.
